Once, they were just two school kids bunking classes and sharing stolen kisses at India Gate. They laughed, dreamed, and even ran off to see the Taj Mahal together. For Avinash, she wasn’t just his first love—she was everything.
But after their final exams, Damini vanished. No goodbye. No reason.
Ten years later, in a crowded metro, Avinash saw her again. She smiled and the past returned.
But Damini was married now—to a man named Manav, who truly loved her.
When Avinash asked why she left, Damini told him: she got a scholarship to study in England and didn’t tell him because she knew he’d stop her. She chose silence—and regretted it ever since.
***
Now, she said, it was too late. She had a husband. A life. And she couldn’t betray Manav.
Deep down, Avinash is still waiting—hoping Damini will return to him. So Damini made a deal: she’d grant him one last wish, and then he must walk away forever.
He agreed. But once the wish was done, he realized he never wanted to leave.
Damini loved him too—but she couldn’t hurt Manav, who had done nothing wrong.
***
Eventually, Manav found out. And in an act of true love, he gave her a divorce, hoping she’d return to Avinash.
But Damini didn’t. She couldn’t bear to break Manav’s heart. She’s happy with Manav, and she knew how deeply he loved her. None of it was his fault—so why should he suffer? She never meant to break his heart.
Avinash decided to leave Delhi. But just before he left, he saw Damini again in the metro.
She said she’d come back—to him. But not with joy. With guilt. She called herself a “living corpse” and said,
“A true Indian woman belongs to the one she gives her heart to—for seven lifetimes.”
***
Avinash broke down And finally, he understood—sometimes, love doesn’t mean holding on. It means letting go.
In the end, he chose her happiness over his own.
And Damini… returned to Manav.
